Bringing your own food to Efteling? Yes, you can! At Efteling it is explicitly allowed for guests to bring their own food and drinks into the park. That means, if you prefer, you don’t have to rely entirely on the park’s restaurants or snack stands for every meal or snack. Bringing your own lunch, sandwiches, fruit, water bottles or snacks is a valid and perfectly acceptable option.

How it works: where (and where not) to eat

While bringing your own food is allowed, Efteling asks that you eat your food at designated picnic areas or other outdoor (or indoor) spotsnot in the restaurants or on terraces meant for the park’s catering guests.

So if the park is crowded, or to respect the space of restaurant-guests, it’s best to find a picnic-spot or a bench / grassy area to enjoy your meal.  That said, if you prefer restaurant food, Efteling also has a variety of eateries, from quick snacks to full meals: pancakes at Polle's Keuken, pizza and pasta, traditional Dutch dishes, snack stands, in short: plenty of options.

Why bringing your own food can be smart

  • Cost-efficient: Theme-park food can be convenient, but it also tends to cost more than a packed lunch. Bringing your own food gives you control over portion sizes, amount, and budget.

  • Flexible timing: Waiting lines at rides or shows might make timing meals tricky, having your own snacks or lunch on hand gives flexibility to eat when you want.

  • Dietary needs / preferences: If you have dietary restrictions or simply prefer your own food (e.g. vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, homemade), bringing your own gives you peace of mind.

  • Convenient for families: Especially if you visit with kids (or in a large group), packed lunches or snacks can simplify logistics — no need to coordinate restaurant visits around attractions or naps.

Some practical tips

  • Use reusable bottles or food containers — tap water and water taps are available (and an attraction on there own.)

  • Choose picnic-friendly food: sandwiches, fruit, snacks. Avoid fragile glass containers (for safety). (While Efteling doesn’t explicitly list all prohibited containers online in the FAQ, glass items are commonly avoided in public parks.)

  • Bring a small bag or backpack, useful for carrying food, drinks and other essentials while you enjoy rides.

When it makes sense — and when maybe not

You might prefer eating at a restaurant when:

  • You want a warm meal, a proper sit-down dinner or something special (pancakes, pizza, etc.)

  • You don’t want to carry food all day

  • You arrive late or expect to spend many hours inside the park

You might prefer bringing your own when:

  • You’re on a budget and want to save money

  • You have dietary preferences or restrictions

  • You plan to snack throughout the day, between rides, or lunch on the go

 Conclusion

Efteling’s food policy gives you the freedom to choose: you can bring your own food and drinks — and eat them in picnic-friendly areas, or enjoy meals in one of the many restaurants. That flexibility makes a visit to Efteling more accessible, affordable and convenient — whether you come with family, friends, or on your own.
