Plopsaland De Panne & Plopsa Coo to be Smoke-Free from the Opening of the Season

Published on 1 April 2023 at 18:29

As the new amusement park season kicks off on April 1st, Plopsaland De Panne and Plopsa Coo will become entirely smoke-free, with a few designated smoking areas clearly marked within both parks.

The federal government had already announced its intention to implement a smoking ban in places where children gather, including amusement parks, by the end of 2022. This tobacco control plan aligns with the government's ambition to create a smoke-free generation. While the smoking ban in amusement parks is scheduled to be enforced by 2025, Plopsa has decided to embrace the government's vision and implement the smoking ban at the beginning of this year's amusement park season. Specifically, there will be five smoking zones in Plopsaland De Panne and three in Plopsa Coo. Outdoor smoking areas will also be provided in the open-air sections of the indoor parks.

"I am pleased with the government's initiatives. However, we had to consider the practical aspects of enforcing these rules," said park manager Wim Wauters. "It would be challenging for us to go around the park and reprimand people directly." Hence, Plopsa has come up with the solution of integrating designated smoking areas. These areas will be clearly indicated on the park maps and prominently signposted within the parks themselves.

By implementing a smoke-free policy, Plopsaland De Panne and Plopsa Coo are taking a proactive stance in promoting a healthier and more family-friendly environment for their visitors. The decision reflects the growing recognition of the harmful effects of secondhand smoke and the importance of safeguarding children's health and well-being. Smoking bans in public spaces have become increasingly common in recent years, and the inclusion of amusement parks in these measures is a significant step toward creating smoke-free environments for children and families. Plopsaland De Panne and Plopsa Coo join a growing number of establishments worldwide that prioritize the health and comfort of their visitors by adopting smoke-free policies.

As the new season begins, families can look forward to a visit to Plopsaland De Panne and Plopsa Coo, where they can enjoy the rides, attractions, and shows in a smoke-free and healthy environment. The clearly marked smoking areas will provide smokers with suitable spaces while ensuring that the majority of the parks are safe and enjoyable for everyone. Let us embrace this positive change and support the efforts of Plopsa in creating a smoke-free generation and healthier experiences for all park visitors.
