The Efteling Fairytale Forest is a large, immersive walk-through attraction featuring life-sized scenes from famous fairy tales. Opened in 1952, it was the very first part of Efteling Theme Park, and it remains its most iconic feature.
Set in a lush forest, the attraction brings beloved fairy tales to life using detailed sets, moving figures, sound effects, music, and clever storytelling techniques. You’ll find over 30 fairy tales represented—ranging from classics like Sleeping Beauty and Hansel and Gretel to Efteling’s own original stories.
What Makes the Fairytale Forest Special?
Each fairy tale is beautifully recreated in its own themed area. Expect enchanted castles, gingerbread houses, talking animals, and magical surprises around every corner. Many scenes feature animated figures, sound effects, and narration that brings the stories to life. Some installations even respond to guests’ actions—for example, ringing a bell or stepping on a stone.
The Fairytale Forest is ideal for families with young children, but it’s also a nostalgic experience for adults who grew up with these classic tales.Unlike typical rides, this attraction is a peaceful stroll through a wooded area. It’s fully accessible to strollers and wheelchairs, and there are no queues or time limits—take your time and explore at your own pace.
